The Tale of Peter Rabbit is a classic book by a fascinating author and illustrator. Beatrix Potter lived a long time ago (born 1866) and was truly an artist and visionary, combining her love of nature and animals with a simple story for children. She had grown up taking care of a variety of animals and while doing so, she learned to draw from a tutor. Having skills like this, is something that was cherished in another time and I feel like that brings a lot of quality and ability for her to clearly communicate her vision. While reading her books, one can tell that she had an intimate understanding of these animals and that knowledge makes the whole experience of reading so rich.
I love these book for their gorgeous illustrations and I think they are well suited for any age. Babies can point at the animals and hear the animal sounds. Down the road, they are great for older kids who can appreciate the writing along side the illustrations.
There are several books available from this author. The quality and beauty of these books makes it clear why they are still on book shelves a hundred years after first being published.
